Day 28 - Submission

Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. (Ephesians 5:21)

Okay, am I the only one who finds this hard?  Submitting is a tough one.  And if submitting to GOD is hard, how much harder to submit to men?

But we are commanded to do it, and to do it “out of reverence for Christ.” We need to choose to yield, because that is what he has commanded us to do, and what he has shown us how to do.

But what does it actually mean?

Jesus submitted.  He submitted to his Father, he submitted to the authorities, he submitted to a horrifying death for our sakes.  But that didn’t mean he was weak, or that he always did what other people wanted him to do.  We see many times that he did exactly what they did not want.

But he chose to do it for their sake; for our sake.  He yielded to what needed to be done in order to serve others.  Even if it wasn’t what they wanted him to do.

Lent is a perfect time to practise submission.  Isn’t the entire month about learning to put our own desires second to our commitment to GOD?  Denying our own bodies and minds to focus on seeking him.  Submitting to him, in hopes of finding him.
